Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea to Sign Bilateral Agreements on Oil and Security

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, for a three-day official visit that will see the signing of key agreements on petroleum resources and security.

President Tinubu touched down at the Presidential Wing of Malabo International Airport at approximately 2:07 p.m. and was warmly received by Prime Minister Manuela Botey.

According to a statement from Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s spokesman, the visit is at the invitation of President Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea.

Upon arrival, President Tinubu was greeted with a brief welcome ceremony before proceeding to the Presidential Palace, also known as People’s Palace Court. There, a short ceremony, family photo session, and military parade were held, followed by a private meeting between Tinubu and Mbasogo.

The discussions between the two leaders are expected to culminate in the signing of bilateral agreements, particularly focusing on oil and gas cooperation, security, and other strategic areas.

Following the meeting, President Tinubu will sign a historic visitors’ book, and a press statement will be issued. The day’s activities will conclude with a formal dinner.

President Tinubu is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Mr. Yusuf Tuggar, Foreign Affairs Minister; Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, Minister of Defense; Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas); and Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior. Also in attendance are Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice; Jamila Ibrahim-Bio, Minister of Youth Development; and Mr. Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The visit also includes representatives from the business community, with Abdulkabir Adisa Aliu, Chief Executive Officer of Matrix Group, among those present.
