The Federal Government has congratulated Zimbabwe on its 45th Independence Anniversary, applauding the country’s progress since gaining sovereignty in 1980.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, conveyed the message in a statement on Friday in Abuja. The statement, released by Ministry Spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Zimbabwe.

Tuggar extended his goodwill to Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. Amon Murwira, describing the anniversary as a significant moment in Zimbabwe’s history.

“The attainment of independence on April 18, 1980, remains a remarkable achievement that reflects the resilience, courage, and determination of the Zimbabwean people,” Tuggar stated.

He highlighted Nigeria’s historic role in supporting Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and expressed satisfaction with the progress Zimbabwe has made in national development over the past four decades.

“As partners in the African Union and other multilateral organisations, Nigeria and Zimbabwe share a common vision for peace, prosperity, and continental integration,” Tuggar added.

He pledged Nigeria’s continued support for Zimbabwe’s socio-economic development and expressed hope for deeper cooperation in areas such as trade, agriculture, and regional security.

“We wish the government and people of Zimbabwe continued peace, prosperity, and the enduring friendship of Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
