Nigeria has extended heartfelt condolences to Iran following a deadly explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port that killed 28 people and injured over 800 others.

The message was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, in a statement released on Sunday by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

The explosion, which struck the southern Iranian port near the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, prompted swift international reactions.

“The government extends its deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the devastating explosion,” Tuggar said.

He added, “Nigeria stands in solidarity with Iran during this difficult time and shares in the grief of families who lost loved ones in the unfortunate incident.”

Tuggar also praised the prompt response of emergency services and encouraged ongoing efforts to support those injured and affected.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire nation of Iran,” he said.
