The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the Government of Switzerland have pledged to sustain and deepen their defence collaboration, with renewed emphasis on non-kinetic approaches to addressing security challenges.

The commitment was made on Thursday when the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Felix Egloff, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Egloff reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and defence ties with Nigeria. He said Switzerland remains particularly interested in supporting non-kinetic security initiatives, including humanitarian engagement, peacebuilding efforts, and programmes aimed at promoting stability.

The Swiss envoy stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between both countries, noting that addressing the root causes of insecurity requires dialogue, development support, and strong institutional partnerships.

In his response, General Oluyede welcomed the ambassador and expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s continued interest in Nigeria’s security and stability. He acknowledged Switzerland’s contributions to non-kinetic efforts in the country and described such partnerships as critical in complementing ongoing military operations.

The Defence Chief also expressed optimism that the existing bilateral relationship would be further strengthened, leading to more impactful outcomes in areas of peacebuilding, strategic cooperation, and shared security objectives.
