The Nigerian Navy has taken delivery of three Agusta Westland 109 Trekker helicopters, a boost to its aerial fleet aimed at enhancing operational capacity.

The handover ceremony was conducted at Caverton Helicopters Limited (CHL) hangar in Ikeja, Lagos, according to a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu.

The AW 109 helicopters, configured for VIP use, are equipped with a full leather interior and noise reduction systems.

“Furthermore, the helicopter is designed with a landing skid, which gives it a better loading capacity compared to wheeled helicopters,” the statement highlighted.

“Additionally, the helicopters are designed with auxiliary tanks, which give them extended endurance of up to 3 hours and 40 minutes,” it added, explaining the potential for long-range transport flights. The helicopters can also be retrofitted with specialized mission equipment, expanding their versatility for different naval operations.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, along with senior naval officers, was present to receive the helicopters, marking a significant enhancement of the Navy’s operational assets.
