Nigerian Troops Neutralize 147 Terrorists, Apprehend 381 Suspects in Nationwide Operations
In a series of coordinated operations across Nigeria over the past week, the Nigerian military has neutralized 147 terrorists, apprehended 381 suspects, and rescued 113 kidnapped hostages.
Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, provided these updates during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday. He detailed the success of the military’s operations, highlighting the recovery of 74 assorted weapons and 3,498 rounds of ammunition, which included AK47 rifles, RPG bombs, and locally fabricated firearms.
In the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully neutralized 81 terrorists, arrested 52 suspects, and rescued 34 hostages. Additionally, 94 terrorists, including 49 children, surrendered to the troops.
Operations in the North Central and North West regions also yielded significant results. Troops neutralized 56 insurgents, arrested 293 suspects, and rescued 73 hostages across these regions. They also recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition.
In the South-South region, Operation Delta Safe troops seized over 1 million litres of stolen crude oil and illegally refined products, while destroying 84 illegal refining sites. Meanwhile, in the South East, troops neutralized nine terrorists and rescued six hostages.
In the South West, Operation AWATSE troops apprehended five violent extremists, recovering several firearms and ammunition.
Maj.-Gen. Buba emphasized that the ongoing operations, particularly against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, are starting to yield positive results in increasing Nigeria’s crude oil production. He assured the public that the military remains committed to maintaining momentum in these operations to ensure national security and stability.
“Winning this war requires more than just military strength; it demands the collective efforts of all citizens,” Buba concluded.
