The Federal Government has directed Nigerians to seek permission before using the national anthem to prevent possible misinterpretation.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Though the statement did not specify in which contexts permission should be obtained, it emphasized that all uses of the anthem must first be approved by the agency to avoid misuse.

Issa-Onilu stated, “As custodians of Nigeria’s national symbols, the NOA is tasked with preventing all forms of misrepresentation.”

The NOA DG also clarified that Nigeria’s flag features the correct shade of green, Emerald 2.0, and expressed concerns about the neglect of value-based social interventions like the Boys’ Scouts, Girls’ Brigade, and the WAI Brigade under previous administrations.

He highlighted the current administration’s commitment to revitalizing these structures, with President Tinubu backing the agency’s initiatives.

Issa-Onilu also called for the creation of locally produced cartoons to promote Nigerian values among the nation’s youth, countering the influence of foreign content.
