The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a weather outlook predicting hazy skies and sunshine from Sunday to Tuesday, with thunderstorms expected in parts of the country.
According to NiMet, moderate dust haze will affect the northern region on Sunday, reducing horizontal visibility to between 2km and 5km, with localized visibility dropping to 1,000 meters in some areas. Sunny skies with occasional clouds are expected in the North Central region, while afternoon thunderstorms with moderate rain may affect parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa States.
In the southern regions, thunderstorms and moderate rain are anticipated over Ondo, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States in the morning, extending across multiple areas as the day progresses.
On Monday, NiMet forecasts similar weather patterns, with moderate dust haze in the North, reduced visibility, and afternoon thunderstorms expected over parts of Kwara, Benue, and Kogi States. Areas such as Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Lagos States may experience morning rains, with thunderstorms anticipated later in the day.
The agency also warns of dust haze on Tuesday across the North and cloudy skies in the central region, with further thunderstorms and rains forecasted in the South.
NiMet has advised individuals with respiratory conditions to exercise caution and recommended that the public take precautions, especially where thunderstorms and strong winds are expected. Airline operators are encouraged to obtain specific weather reports from NiMet to ensure safe operations.
