The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a three-day dust haze weather condition across the country from Monday, Dec. 30, to Wednesday, Jan. 1.

In a weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted moderate dust haze across northern regions on Monday, with visibility ranging between 2km and 5km and localized visibility reduced to 1km or less throughout the day.

The North Central region is also expected to experience similar conditions, while early morning mist or fog is anticipated over southern coastal areas before transitioning to moderate dust haze with visibility ranging from 2km to 5km.

For Tuesday, the northern region is forecasted to experience thick dust haze throughout the day. The North Central region will likely remain in moderate dust haze, with visibility reduced to between 1km and 3km. Southern coastal areas will witness early morning mist or fog before transitioning to moderate dust haze with similar visibility.

By Wednesday, thick dust haze is anticipated across both the northern and North Central regions. Southern parts of the country will again experience early morning mist or fog over coastal cities, followed by moderate dust haze with visibility ranging from 1km to 3km.

NiMet cautioned that dust particles will remain in suspension during this period, urging the public to take necessary precautions.

“Individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues should exercise caution due to the current weather conditions,” the agency advised.

It also recommended that airline operators obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning and urged residents to stay informed via its website: www.nimet.gov.ng.

“Public adherence to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities is essential to mitigate potential impacts,” NiMet concluded.
