The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted widespread thunderstorms across Nigeria from Thursday to Saturday, with potential impacts on various regions.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday, thunderstorms are expected on Wednesday morning over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna states. Later in the day, the storms will spread to Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara, Borno, and Kebbi states.
For the North Central region, thunderstorms are predicted over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, and Benue states in the morning, with expansion into Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, and other areas later in the day. In Southern Nigeria, thunderstorms are expected over Ondo, Ebonyi, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.
On Thursday, NiMet predicts thunderstorms in the morning for Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi states, extending later to Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara. In the North Central region, storms are anticipated across the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa states. The Southern region will experience thunderstorms across Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
The forecast for Friday includes morning thunderstorms over Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi states, with a mix of clouds and sunshine expected in the northern region later in the day. Thunderstorms are predicted for Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, and the Federal Capital Territory.
NiMet has warned of potential urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours, urging residents to avoid flood-prone areas and take safety precautions.
