The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rain across various parts of the country from Wednesday to Friday.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms on Wednesday over parts of Taraba, Kaduna, and Adamawa States in the northern region.
The agency said, “Thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over parts of Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi States later in the day.”
For the North-Central region, early morning thunderstorms are expected in parts of Benue, Kwara, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Nasarawa States.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms with rains are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, and Plateau States,” the agency added.
In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected with chances of morning rain over Ondo, Ekiti, and Edo States.
“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over parts of Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers during the afternoon or evening hours,” NiMet stated.
On Thursday, morning thunderstorms are expected in parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa, and Taraba States.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Gombe, and Bauchi States,” the forecast continued.
In the North-Central zone, patches of clouds with intervals of sunshine are expected, with morning thunderstorms likely in Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and the FCT.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau States,” NiMet stated.
Morning thunderstorms are also expected in parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States in the southern region.
The agency predicted that isolated thunderstorms with rain would affect most parts of Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers States later in the day.
On Friday, the outlook shows morning thunderstorms over parts of Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba States in the North.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms with rains are anticipated over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Kaduna, and Bauchi States,” NiMet added.
The North-Central region will experience patches of clouds with sunshine intervals, with prospects of thunderstorms in the FCT, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Niger during the day.
“Thunderstorms over parts of Kwara, Benue, and Kogi are expected in the afternoon or evening hours,” the agency said.
The southern region is forecast to experience a cloudy atmosphere with morning rain over parts of Oyo, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, followed by isolated thunderstorms in most parts later in the day.
NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions, as strong winds may precede the rains in affected areas.
“Public should take adequate precaution and ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision,” the agency warned.
“Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.”
