The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Jigawa State has intercepted 10 suspected victims of human trafficking in Babura Local Government Area.

The State Comptroller of NIS, Mr. Tahir Musa, disclosed this during a press briefing in Dutse on Tuesday. He revealed that the victims were intercepted on Sunday at Tsamiyar Kwance, while en route to Niger Republic and subsequently Europe.

According to Musa, the Operation Salama team intercepted the group at around 1:00 p.m. The victims, aged between 21 and 30, included two males and eight females.

“Upon profiling and interrogation, the victims confessed that they were moved from various locations to Kano State and then to Babura, with plans to travel through Niger Republic to Libya and eventually cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe,” Musa explained.

He further noted that the victims hailed from different states, including Ogun (6), Ondo (2), Oyo (1), and Imo (1).

Musa warned parents to educate and guide their children to avoid falling victim to traffickers who lure them with false promises of a better life abroad.

The comptroller commended the leadership of the NIS Comptroller-General, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, and the support of the Jigawa State Government in strengthening efforts to combat human trafficking and irregular migration in the region.

The rescued individuals have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and appropriate action.

The NIS reiterated its commitment to curbing human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
