The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has commemorated this year’s International Women’s Day by organizing a health talk and an income streams lecture for its female staff, aimed at promoting wellbeing and financial empowerment.

Declaring the event open, the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, who was represented by the Director of Finance Management and Control, Mrs. Titi Olusonya, emphasized the importance of unity among women in the workplace. She urged participants to support one another, noting that collaboration remains essential for personal and professional growth.

Olusonya also encouraged the women to make meaningful impacts within and beyond the agency. According to her, contributing positively to others’ lives would ensure they are remembered long after leaving the organisation.

As part of the programme, a health session was delivered by Dr. Fatima Mustapha, a general physician at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja. She spoke extensively on building resilience and prioritizing mental and emotional wellbeing both at work and at home.

Dr. Mustapha stressed the importance of self-care, particularly for women who often juggle professional responsibilities with family obligations. She highlighted that mental health plays a critical role in shaping decisions and relationships, adding that it directly affects productivity, physical health, and overall quality of life.

She further noted that women tend to experience higher stress levels than men, making it even more crucial for them to adopt strategies that support their mental wellbeing.

In addition to the health talk, participants received guidance on financial empowerment from a consultant with NITDA, Mr Peter Olayinka who delivered a lecture on generating additional income streams beyond regular salaries. He encouraged the women to explore online opportunities, citing the growing importance of alternative income sources in today’s economy.

According to the consultant, diversifying income is vital in addressing rising costs of education, healthcare emergencies, and maintaining economic stability.

The event forms part of NITDA’s broader efforts to empower its workforce and promote a balanced approach to health, career growth, and financial independence among its female employees.
