Nollywood Producer Kayode Peters Dies In Toronto, Canada

Nigerian filmmaker and actor Kayode Peters Adewumi, best known for his role as Koko in the sitcom Flatmates, has died in Toronto, Canada, after a prolonged illness. He was 44.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Peters family said he “passed on peacefully” in the early hours of June 28 after “bravely challenging and conquering a long-time illness until his last breath.”

“KP, a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend, was a gifted filmmaker, actor, and producer whose work inspired many,” the family wrote. “Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him. He touched countless lives, both on and off the screen, and will be deeply missed.”

The family requested privacy as they make funeral arrangements and promised to share further details “in due course.”

Since news of his passing broke, tributes have poured in from colleagues across Nollywood and the wider entertainment industry, celebrating Peters’ creative legacy and personal generosity.

Peters’ career spanned more than two decades, including directing stage plays, producing television series, and mentoring young actors. His most recent projects included producing a slate of comedy specials and working on a forthcoming streaming series.

He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.
