Veteran Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has announced the heartbreaking loss of his son, sparking a wave of condolences from fans and fellow entertainers across the country.

The 54-year-old made the announcement via Instagram on Saturday, sharing a poignant photo of his late son accompanied by a short, emotional tribute.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un, Ya Allah,” he wrote. “You are the Knower of all things. Rest on, dear son, champ.”

The comment section of the post quickly filled with prayers and comforting messages from both colleagues in the film industry and devoted fans, all expressing their sorrow and offering support during his time of grief.

This tragedy comes just days after another painful loss in Nollywood — the death of Ayomikun, the only son of veteran actress Peju Ogunmola. The back-to-back bereavements have cast a shadow over the Nigerian film industry, leaving many in mourning.

This is not the first time Chatta has experienced the devastating loss of a child. In a previous interview, the actor revealed that his first child — a baby girl — died years ago due to extreme poverty and lack of access to medical care. Unable to afford a proper burial, he was forced to lay her to rest in a wooden beverage crate.

“My first child is not Malik. The first child I had died,” Chatta recalled. “She was buried in a crate of Coke, the old wooden crate of Coke.”

Today, the actor is a father to three surviving children and has spoken openly about how the earlier loss has deeply influenced the way he raises them, particularly his only daughter, Awawu, with whom he shares a strong bond.

As the Nollywood community reels from yet another personal tragedy, messages of love and solidarity continue to pour in for Chatta and his family.
