North Korea Slams Trump’s $175B ‘Golden Dome’ Missile Shield as Global Threat

North Korea has strongly condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense system, labeling it a “very dangerous and threatening initiative” that risks igniting a global arms race in both nuclear and outer space domains.

In a statement carried Tuesday by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s Foreign Ministry claimed the U.S. missile shield project is designed to threaten the strategic security of nuclear-armed nations viewed as hostile by Washington.

“The U.S., which long ago declared outer space a future battlefield, is now openly accelerating its militarization,” the ministry said. “This plan is not about defense — it’s about achieving preemptive military superiority under the guise of homeland protection.”

The ministry accused the U.S. of using the Golden Dome project to justify a hegemony-driven buildup of space-based weapons, warning that such actions could turn outer space into a future nuclear war zone. It further claimed that the missile shield is intended to empower Washington to launch military strikes against rival states at will.

The criticism comes days after President Trump announced that his administration has finalized the “architecture” for the ambitious missile defense system, with a projected cost of $175 billion over three years. While specifics remain limited, Trump said the Golden Dome would involve advanced land-, sea-, and space-based technologies, including satellite sensors and interceptors.

North Korea’s latest warning adds to growing international concern that the U.S. initiative could escalate tensions with other nuclear powers, particularly in an era of increasing geopolitical and technological rivalry.
