NSCDC Deploys 6,433 Personnel for Edo Governorship Election
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 6,433 officers and personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the Edo State Governorship Election.
In a statement on Wednesday, Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Audi urged the officers to maintain professionalism, discipline, and neutrality throughout the election period. He emphasized the importance of securing both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials before, during, and after the polls.
The deployment includes 3,626 officers from the Edo State Command and additional support from nearby states, including over 300 officers each from Ondo, Delta, Kogi, Osun, Imo, and Enugu Commands. Special Forces from the NSCDC National Headquarters, such as the Special Intelligence Squad and Anti-Vandal Unit, have also been mobilized, along with K9 Units and 607 Special Forces.
“Our personnel will cover all flashpoints, polling units, collation centers, and INEC offices to ensure peaceful elections,” Dr. Audi stated. He also urged politicians to avoid inciting violence and called on parents to prevent their children from being used for electoral misconduct.
Deputy Commandant General, Philip Ayuba, has been tasked with overseeing the deployment, ensuring coordination and security throughout the election process.
