The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna State Command, has called on its officers to take the message of peace to grassroots communities, stressing that without peace, progress cannot be achieved.
The State Commandant, Panam Musa, made the call in Kaduna on Tuesday after leading personnel on a 4-kilometre walk tagged “Jog With Personnel.”
Musa charged officers to be peace ambassadors wherever they go, promoting harmony and reducing criminality.
“By preaching peace, civil defence personnel can positively influence people in various settings, including Mosques and Churches, encouraging them to avoid actions that could lead to conflict or violence,” he said.
He explained that the event was part of activities marking the International Day of Peace, describing it as a “Call to Action for a Peaceful World.”
According to him, “Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981, this day is dedicated to strengthening the ideals of peace and promoting a culture of peace, mutual understanding, and cooperation.”
Musa said the significance of the day went beyond celebration, noting, “It emphasises the need for global commitment to peace, building societies where everyone feels safe and equal, and promoting positive and dynamic processes of peace. The day encourages individuals, communities, and nations to work together towards a more peaceful world.”
On this year’s theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” Musa said it was a timely reminder of the importance of taking concrete steps to foster peace and understanding.
“In a world facing numerous challenges, including conflicts, inequality, and social injustice, it is more important than ever to work towards a culture of peace,” he said.
The commandant urged officers to engage in conversations about peace, support local initiatives that promote harmony, speak out against hate speech, and show respect and empathy to others regardless of background or beliefs.
“Peace is not just a vision; it is a call to action that each of us can answer by promoting understanding, respect, and justice in our daily lives,” Musa added.
He commended Governor Uba Sani for supporting security agencies in the state through provision of equipment and motivation for officers. Musa also appreciated the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Audi, for his leadership, saying, “His dedication continues to inspire us as we fulfill our mandate to protect lives and properties across the nation.”
