The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamawa State Command, has announced the promotion of one of its personnel, Abubakar Mayos, for a rare act of honesty and integrity.
The announcement was made by the state Commandant, Idris Bande, during a press conference held on Wednesday in Yola.
According to Bande, Mayos, who held the rank of Corps Assistant II (CAII), was elevated to Corps Assistant I (CAI) for returning a lost bag containing $500 and 300 Saudi Riyals—valued at approximately N850,000. The bag belonged to Maimuna Salihu, a pilgrim from Taraba State scheduled to travel for the 2025 Hajj, and was found at the Yola International Airport.
“In recognition of his exemplary conduct, the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Audi, approved the immediate promotion of Mayos from Corps Assistant II (CAII) to Corps Assistant I (CAI),” Bande said.
The commandant lauded Mayos for demonstrating values that not only uplifted the image of the corps but also earned him admiration from his peers and the public.
“Today, we recognise Abubakar Mayos not only for his achievements but how he earned trust and respect of everyone and projected a good image of the corps,” Bande stated.
“In a world where shortcuts are tempting and appearances can be deceptive, Mayos demonstrated principle, steadfastness, transparency, and sincerity.
“Honesty is not just about telling the truth, it is also about living it and making the right choices even when no one is watching.
“It is also about having the courage to speak up, the integrity to act fairly, and the humility to admit mistakes as well,” he added.
Bande further commended the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Audi, for his continued encouragement of ethical conduct and integrity among NSCDC personnel.
“By recognising and rewarding honesty, the commandant general has reaffirmed that doing the right thing pays.
“His leadership continues to inspire a sense of duty and responsibility within our ranks,” Bande concluded.
