The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe Chapter, has commended Yobe Government for the construction of rural roads across the state.
The chapter’s Chairman, Alhaji Rajab Mohammed, made the commendation when he inspected the just completed 2.5km Ngojin – Potiskum road on Saturday.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on the road, noting that it would open up the agrarian communities in the area for trade and commerce.
Mohammed said the inspection, which began in 2024, was aimed at drawing the attention of the government to sharp practices in road projects.
The chairman also commended the state Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Wakil Dudaye, for ensuring standard in the road’s construction.
“Even though I am not an engineer, I can comfortably tell you that what I am seeing here is quality work,” he said.
The village Head of Ngojin B, Bulama Haruna, thanked Gov. Mai Mala Buni for what he described as the “ first tarred road in the area for over 200 years.”
“Ngojin is older than Potiskum by over 100 years, but the town remains what it is today due to neglect by previous administrations,” he alleged.
Haruna said that with the completion of the road, farm produce such as guinea corn, rice and sorghum could easily be transported to the market from the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mohammed also inspected the ongoing 5km Daya-Fadawa road.
The site engineer, Mr Saleh Mustapha, said the two roads were constructed through direct labour.
He assured that the Fadawa-Daya road would be completed by next week and work on its shoulders would begin thereafter.
