Oba Abimbola Owoade Crowned 46th Alaafin of Oyo Amid Grand Ceremony

Oba Abimbola Owoade has officially been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83.

The coronation ceremony, held at Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo, witnessed a grand turnout of dignitaries and traditional rulers. Governor Seyi Makinde led the event, where Oba Owoade was presented with the staff and instrument of office.

Distinguished guests at the ceremony included the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, among others.

President Bola Tinubu was represented by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.

Oba Owoade had earlier completed the mandatory 21-day traditional rites known as Oro Ipebi on Saturday, March 29, 2025. His formal presentation with the staff of office took place on January 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.
