Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has urged Nigerians to document their achievements and life experiences to inspire and guide future generations.
Obi made this call on Monday during the public presentation of Sen. Chris Anyanwu’s book, Bold Leap, in Abuja. He commended Anyanwu for capturing her journey in a compelling narrative, emphasizing that such documentation is crucial in a society where positive role models are scarce.
“Writing makes all the difference,” Obi said, noting the importance of learning from the accomplishments of others.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by Minister of Special Duties Zephaniah Jisalo, praised Bold Leap for its potential to motivate Nigerian youth.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo described the book as a testament to overcoming life’s challenges, lauding Anyanwu’s resilience and contributions to Nigeria’s development.
Sen. Shehu Sani recounted his time in prison alongside Anyanwu and Obasanjo during the Abacha regime, highlighting Anyanwu’s courage and ability to uplift fellow inmates.
Segun Adeniyi, Chairman of the Editorial Board of ThisDay Newspaper, reviewed the book, showcasing Anyanwu’s personal and political struggles. He noted that the book provides a rare glimpse into the adversities Nigerian women face in politics.
“Despite enduring mental, emotional, and psychological trauma during her imprisonment in various locations, Anyanwu remained unbroken and committed to self-development, even writing commentaries while in Kaduna Prison,” Adeniyi said.
Anyanwu called on Nigerians to share their stories, urging them to write their own books to preserve the country’s history and legacy.
The event attracted notable figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, represented by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Anyim Pius Anyim, as well as former SGF Boss Mustapha and former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige.
