Ocasio-Cortez, Lawmakers Slam Trump’s Iran Strikes, Call for Impeachment

U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has called for the impeachment of former President Donald Trump over his decision to order military strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites without Congressional approval.

The controversial airstrikes targeted key Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. In a brief statement following the attacks, Trump confirmed that all American aircraft involved had successfully exited Iranian airspace and were “safely on their way home.”

Ocasio-Cortez condemned the action as an unconstitutional overreach of presidential powers.

“The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers,” she said.
“He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”

Her call was echoed by other lawmakers across party lines. Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), a frequent critic of Trump, also decried the legality of the strikes.

“This is not Constitutional,” Massie stated plainly.

Meanwhile, Representative Jim Himes (D-Conn.), a senior Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, expressed outrage that Congress was not consulted prior to the offensive.

“According to the Constitution, we are both sworn to defend, my attention to this matter comes before bombs fall. Full stop,” Himes wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The Iran strikes have sparked renewed debate in Washington over presidential war powers and the legal limits of unilateral military action.
