The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Fatai Quadri after a viral video allegedly showed him violently assaulting his wife, Rukayat, in Ilese-Ijebu.
CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday. She said the incident occurred on Monday.
According to her, Quadri was captured in the video repeatedly punching his wife, leaving her with visible injuries. Operatives from the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu-Ode, swiftly arrested the suspect.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the assault stemmed from a marital dispute over allegations of infidelity. Odutola explained that Quadri allegedly transferred ownership of a 10-room en-suite apartment, jointly built with his wife, to another woman, a move that allegedly triggered the violent attack.
She confirmed that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment, while the suspect remains in custody and will face charges upon completion of investigations.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for domestic violence, warning that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
He urged members of the public, especially victims of domestic abuse, to promptly report any form of violence or threats to the nearest police station.
“Silence only empowers perpetrators, but timely reporting ensures protection and justice,” the commissioner said.
