A teenage boy, identified as Monday Ariyo, has tragically died after allegedly receiving 164 lashes from a teacher at Obada Grammar School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area, Ogun State.

The incident has sparked widespread calls for justice and an investigation into the matter.

The incident reportedly began when the teacher brought a dustbin to class, instructing students not to damage it. Ariyo allegedly commented, “Is it not our money they used to buy it?” The teacher reported this to the principal, who allegedly instructed the teacher to discipline Ariyo. Witnesses claim the teacher then flogged the boy 164 times, causing him to collapse.

Ariyo was rushed to the hospital, but his condition worsened, and he passed away. Video footage shared online shows his body being loaded into an ambulance at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta.

Social media influencer @justadetoun posted about the case, warning that immediate burial plans could hinder justice. She called for Ogun State authorities to investigate and hold those responsible accountable. The case has since gained public attention, with many demanding swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
