Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers, has described the emergency rule in the state as painful but critical and a timeous decision.
Okocha made the remark in his letter titled, ‘’Declaration of State of Emergency in Rivers State,’’ addressed to President Bola Tinubu and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
He noted that the atmosphere in the state had become quacky due to the unfortunate turn of event in state politics.
He said that the President’s action aligned with an African proverb that says, ‘’an elder doesn’t sit to watch a goat deliver her baby on tethers.”
‘’We are satisfied with Mr President’s decision for the State of Emergency in Rivers State; it was timeous.
‘’We heard the drumbeat of war and ethnicisation of a political imbroglio.’’
Okocha congratulated the President for the emergency rule, saying that it was utilitarian to the extent that it brought succour and happiness to the largest number of people in the state.
He also commended him for the numerous appointments gifted the Rivers indigenes which APC members benefitted from and still hopeful to benefit.
He claimed that the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, did not even extended inconsequential position to them.
He, however, congratulated the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), saying that his ‘’pedigree in administration and scintillating service to our Nation speak volumes.’’
Okocha declared his party’s support and determination to work with Ibas towards the realisation of the President’s good intentions.
