OurNigeria News Awards 2024: Ahmed Musa Nominated for Philanthropy Category
Nigerian football star and Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has been nominated for the Philanthropy Category at the prestigious OurNigeria News Awards 2024. This recognition celebrates Musa’s outstanding commitment to community development and his dedication to uplifting lives through his philanthropic efforts.
The announcement was made by the Awards Committee, in a press release signed by its Chairman, Sir A.K. Peters, describing Musa as a shining example of how success can be paired with compassion for the greater good.
According to the statement, Ahmed Musa’s journey to stardom is a story of resilience and hard work. Born on October 14, 1992, in Jos, Plateau State, Musa started his football career with JUTH FC and later Kano Pillars, where he set a record as the highest goal scorer in the 2009/2010 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
His exceptional performance earned him a move to Europe, joining VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands in 2011. Musa’s career reached its peak at CSKA Moscow, where he won multiple domestic league titles and competed on the prestigious UEFA Champions League stage. In 2016, he made history as the first Nigerian to sign with English Premier League club Leicester City.
Musa’s achievements on the international stage are equally remarkable. A veteran of multiple African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments and two FIFA World Cups, he remains the only Nigerian to score a brace in a World Cup match—a feat he achieved against Iceland in 2018.
Beyond football, Musa has made a significant impact through his philanthropic activities, which earned him the OurNigeria News Awards nomination.
Speaking on his nomination, the Publisher of OurNigeria News Magazine, Dr. Abubakar Sani, praised Musa’s contributions, stating:
“Ahmed Musa is a true role model whose actions remind us that greatness is not only measured by achievements but also by the lives we touch. His dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians reflects the highest ideals of leadership and humanity.”
The OurNigeria News Awards 2024, set to take place on January 30, 2025 at the Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly Sheraton Hotel), will honour Musa and other trailblazers across various fields. The event promises to spotlight individuals who inspire change and exemplify excellence.
Further announcements about nominees in other categories are expected in the coming days.
