Over 25,000 Undocumented Migrants Cross into UK via English Channel in 2024
More than 25,000 undocumented migrants have crossed into the United Kingdom through the English Channel since the start of 2024, according to data released by the UK government.
The Home Office reported that 1,519 migrants made the journey between Sept. 16 and Sept. 22, bringing the total number to 25,052 arrivals from January to September this year.
The data revealed that over 800 migrants arrived on a single day this month, marking the highest daily total since the Labour Party assumed power in July. However, the peak for daily crossings remains June 18, when 900 migrants were recorded.
Many of these undocumented migrants seek to enter the UK to apply for refugee status, which grants access to financial support and social programs.
The influx has led to significant expenses for the UK government, which now spends millions of pounds daily to accommodate refugees in hotels across the country.
