Oyo Police Launch Manhunt as Inspector Killed in Attack on Operatives
The Oyo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected attackers following a deadly assault on police operatives that claimed the life of an inspector.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the Commissioner of Police had ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident.
According to Ayanlade, the inspector was killed while bravely repelling the attack in the line of duty.
“There was an attack on police operatives during which an inspector, while courageously repelling the attack, paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” he said.
He added that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police directed an urgent manhunt for the perpetrators, noting that preliminary investigations suggest some of the attackers sustained gunshot injuries.
“Preliminary findings indicate that some of the attackers sustained bullet injuries, and operatives are currently on their trail,” Ayanlade stated.
The police spokesperson assured residents that adequate security measures are being put in place across the state to prevent further attacks and to protect lives and property.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting anyone with gunshot wounds, individuals seeking suspicious medical treatment, or unfamiliar faces seeking refuge in their communities.
