P-Square Rift: Peter Okoye Criticizes Twin Paul in Open Letter

Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has publicly criticized his twin brother Paul Okoye, aka Rudeboy, in an open letter for repeatedly downplaying his contributions to their former music group, P-Square.

Peter shared the emotionally charged letter on his Instagram page, accusing Paul of consistently discrediting his role in P-Square, a group they co-founded and elevated to stardom.

The letter reads in part: “My dear brother Paul, as I’ve told you countless times, I am not competing with you or anyone else. However, your numerous interviews where you belittle my contributions to the group we both created speak volumes.”

“In your recent interviews, you claimed to have written and sung 99% of all P-Square songs, dismissing my efforts, including the song ‘Ejeajo’ with T.I., which I wrote, labeling it a failure. You’ve overlooked our successful tracks like ‘Get-Squared,’ ‘Bizzy Body,’ ‘Personally,’ and many more. Were these failures too?”

Peter further expressed disappointment in Paul’s actions, saying, “Instead of uniting with me to reclaim our number one spot in the music industry, you chose to align with Jude to assert dominance in P-Square. You always seek opportunities to marginalize and humiliate me, claiming to be everything in P-Square.”

Mr P also questioned whether their solo careers have matched P-Square’s success, asking, “Is Rudeboy or Mr P bigger and more successful than P-Square today? Are we individually selling out arenas and topping global music charts as we once did together?”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the talented twins, Peter and Paul, began their music career in 1999, dominating the African music scene until their split in 2017. Following their separation, Peter adopted the stage name Mr P, and Paul became Rudeboy, each releasing music as solo artists.

Despite pressure from fans, friends, and fellow artists, the brothers reconciled in 2021 and performed together in Sierra Leone, raising hopes for P-Square’s return. However, in a recent interview, Paul dismissed any possibility of a reunion, stating, “P-Square is no more.”
