Parents laud Zulum’s education support

Some parents in Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area of Borno on Tuesday commended Gov. Babagana Zulum for providing educational materials to pupils.
They made the commendation in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Kwaya Kusar town.
Malam Alhassan Guba, a parent and father of four said through Zulum’s support, all his children who were hitherto out-of-school have been enrolled without any cost to him.
Guba said that many children were out-of-school in his community because of poverty, saying the menace was being tackled by the state government and the Kwaya Kusar Local council.
“The provision of books, uniforms, bags, pen and other educational materials free of charge has really encouraged me and many other parents to enrol our wards.
“We know that education is free but those writing materials that our children need have prevented most of parents from enrolling our children because we don’t have the money to buy them.
“Now that the governor has distributed them free, no child should be seen on the streets during school hours because there are no more excuses for parents.
“This is commendable; I also thank Mr Dahiru Hamma, Kwaya Kusar Council Chairman for also enrolling 119 out-of-school children and giving them all learning materials for free.”
On his part, Mr Mustapha Ali, a farmer from Kwaya Kusar said his two children started schooling only last year and the enrolment was at no cost to him.
Ali said the only thing a parent needed to give for his children to start school was their consent, after that: “the government does the rest.
“The free material and school fees are really helpful, giving our children an opportunity to school and after school hours, come to help us out in our farms or shops,” he said.
For 28-year-old Mohammed Ibrahim, whose late brother’s son got enrolled into school in 2025, said that the state and local council education support was assisting in the enrolment of vulnerable children into schools.
Ibrahim appreciated Zulum and Hamma for providing the needed support to the children of the poor and vulnerable to have access to education.
“If you go round Kwaya Kusar now during school hours, you will hardly see children in the street, there is a positive change as most children are now in school,” he said.
For Rebecca Yakubu, the education of children in the council is now being prioritised.
According to Yakubu, the awareness of the need to educate children is now being strengthened and more parents are complying and out-of-school children are happier to be in school like their peers.
She commended Dr Salihu Ibrahim, the education secretary of Kwaya Kusar Council for his ,”constant and thorough” supervision of teachers while training them for effective service delivery.
They appealed to the state government to sustain the support to encourage more children to have access to education in the council.
