Pate’s achievements at FUK excite ex-TETFund boss, Bogoro
The Former Executive Secretary of TETFund, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, described the establishment of the College of Medical Sciences as a defining legacy and one of the most impactful achievements of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere, Prof. Umaru Pate.
Bogoro stated this in Kashere Community of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State while delivering a public lecture titled “Footsteps and Footprints of an Intellectual and University Leader” in honour of Prof. Pate at the university campus.
He noted that although Prof. Pate was the third Vice-Chancellor of the university, his leadership clearly stood out.
According to Bogoro, Prof. Pate showed strong vision, clear direction, and lasting impact during his time in office.
“Two Vice-Chancellors served before him and made their contributions,” Bogoro said, “but Prof. Umaru Pate made a clear difference.
“His footprints can be seen in academic growth, stronger confidence within the university, and bold decisions such as the establishment of the College of Medical Sciences,” he said.
He added that the achievement showed Pate’s ability to link university development with national needs, even in the face of the many challenges facing public universities.
Bogoro also aplauded Pate’s strong academic background as a professor of communication”This influenced his open leadership style, focus on ideas, and commitment to building lasting academic traditions rather than personal glory,” he explained.
In his remark Prof. Umaru Pate, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Kashere (FUK) and Chairman of the occassion, , said that before his appointment, some academic programmes in the university were not accredited.
He added that during his tenure, he also introduced additional faculties to strengthen academic development.
The VC said he prayed that whoever succeeds him would continue from where he stopped and build on the progress already made.
Pate stated that throughout his five years in office, he never victimised any member of staff.
He also disclosed that within the next two weeks, the university would appoint 11 new professors, adding that all of them earned their positions through hard work.
“We award degrees and higher degrees only to those who deserve them, not through nepotism,” he said.
According to him, the university’s professors are focused on scholarship and are actively attracting scholars from different parts of the world while building strong international networks.
“We will not bring in people’s children and give them outdated knowledge our goal is to provide quality education.” he said.
