Emory H. Markle Middle School in Pennsylvania has come under scrutiny after installing windows in its gender-inclusive bathrooms, allowing visibility into the sink areas from the hallway.
While the windows do not reveal the stalls, the move has sparked backlash from parents, community members, and LGBTQ+ advocates, according to the Hanover Evening Sun.
The South Western School District, which approved the installation in August, stated that the decision followed legal guidance from the Independence Law Center, a branch of the religious Pennsylvania Family Institute.
The decision, meant to address concerns about safety and transparency, has raised significant concerns over privacy and the treatment of LGBTQ+ students.
