Tragedy struck again in Plateau state as residents of Zike community gathered to bury 51 victims of a recent deadly attack, intensifying calls for urgent security intervention in the region.

The assault, which marks another wave of violence in the troubled state, has prompted President Bola Tinubu to order security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, tensions flared in Bassa local government area after the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) confirmed that 36 cows were shot dead and 42 others poisoned. The incident came shortly after Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced a ban on night grazing, a measure introduced in response to recent killings.

Ya’u Idris, chairman of MACBAN in Bassa, condemned the killing of the cattle, describing it as an escalation of hostilities that could worsen community relations if not swiftly addressed.

Community leaders in Zike, already devastated by the human toll, echoed growing frustration over the lack of security and the cycle of violence. They called for long-term solutions, including stronger law enforcement presence, conflict mediation, and economic support for affected families.

President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to ending insecurity in the region, urging local stakeholders to cooperate with authorities in ongoing investigations.
