The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports sporadic attacks in Angwan Rukuba community on Sunday, March 29, which resulted in multiple killings and heightened fear across Plateau.
Awunah-Ikyegh also called on the Federal Government to act urgently and sincerely on the incessant killings in Nigerian communities, declaring, “Enough is enough. The perpetrators must be swiftly arrested and brought to justice.”
She emphasised that repeated violence followed by mere words or promises was unacceptable, insisting that what was needed now was firm, visible, and lasting action to permanently end those senseless killings.
“As women and mothers, we refuse to accept a reality where violence becomes normalised. Every life lost is a tragedy too many, and silence in the face of injustice betrays our shared humanity.
“We share deeply in the grief of all those who have lost loved ones. We pray the Almighty grants comfort to bereaved families, strength to survivors, and peace to every troubled heart.
“May the souls of the departed rest in peace. We stand with Plateau, mourn with Plateau, and will continue to raise our voices until peace and justice prevail,” Awunah-Ikyegh added.
Awunah-Ikyegh described the situation with deep emotion, saying, “As mothers, our hearts are not just bleeding as Plateau bleeds, our very wombs ache with sores.
“The cries of grieving families cut deeply into our shared humanity.”
She reaffirmed NILOWV’s solidarity with the people of Plateau, mourning every family that had lost a loved one and acknowledging the pain of mothers whose children would never return home.
“No words can fully capture the depth of this sorrow, she added, assuring the bereaved that they were not alone and urging the NILOWV Plateau Chapter to respond with unity, compassion, and strength.
“Your voices, presence, and continued advocacy for peace and justice are needed now more than ever. Stand firm as pillars of hope within your communities,” Awunah-Ikyegh added.
