Poland is set to begin construction of new nuclear reactors in 2026, following a longstanding effort to develop its nuclear energy sector.

The Polish government first partnered with Westinghouse in November 2022 to supply three AP1000 nuclear power reactors. This agreement built on earlier steps, including memorandums of understanding signed between Westinghouse and ten Polish companies in January 2022.

Poland’s broader push toward renewable and clean energy development received approval from European regulators back in December 2017, paving the way for its nuclear ambitions.

Construction of the reactors is expected to create related job opportunities and boost the country’s energy independence.
