The Osun State Police Command has arrested four persons, including an Imam, in connection with the death of an unidentified man in Osogbo.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrests to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

According to Ojelabi, the police received a report on Friday that a man was beaten near a mosque in Osogbo and immediately dispatched officers to the scene.

He said the officers found the victim unconscious with visible bruises all over his body, suggesting he had been severely assaulted.

“The victim was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, Jaleyemi Hospital, Osogbo, where he was confirmed dead,” Ojelabi said.

He added that the police subsequently returned to the scene and arrested four suspects, including the Imam of the Ogo-Oluwa Mosque, where the victim was found.

“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.

NAN investigations revealed that the deceased had gone to the Ogo-Oluwa Mosque for early morning prayers but allegedly attacked the Imam during the service.

It was learnt that worshippers restrained him to prevent harm to the Imam, overpowered him and reportedly beat him, after which he became unconscious.
