Police confirm abduction of doctor, brother in Edo
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a medical doctor and his brother in Auchi, Edo State.
The victims, identified as Dr Abu Ibrahim Babatunde and his brother, Abu Tahir, were reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday night in front of their residence at Ibira Camp, Auchi, while attempting to open their gate. Dr Babatunde recently completed his housemanship at the Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi.
Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in the state, SP Eno Ikoedem, said the case was reported at about 8:30pm, prompting the immediate deployment of officers from the Auchi Divisional Headquarters to the scene.
Ikoedem disclosed that the police are working in collaboration with local vigilantes, forest guards and Community Safety Partnership Volunteers who are familiar with the surrounding forest terrain.
She added that aggressive search-and-rescue operations are currently ongoing in the forest and adjoining areas.
The police assured the victims’ family and members of the public that all necessary efforts are being intensified to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted men.
