The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected motorcycle robber and two others allegedly involved in receiving stolen goods in Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Awka on Wednesday.
According to the statement, “The police operatives attached to Nnobi Division, in collaboration with Awka-Etiti Vigilance Group, on October 13, arrested one Chiemerie Okeke, a notorious motorcycle robbery suspect, and two suspected receivers of stolen motorcycles in Iruowelle Village, Awka-Etiti.
“During the operation, the team recovered four Kymco 125 motorcycles reasonably suspected to have been stolen.”
Ikenga said the breakthrough followed a report made on October 11 by a victim of the syndicate, who narrated how he and his wife were attacked and dispossessed of their motorcycle.
He stated that the victim reported that “while returning home on the same day on his black Kata Pen motorcycle with his wife, two young men overtook them around Awka-Etiti Town and forcefully snatched the motorcycle.”
Ikenga explained that a diligent surveillance and intelligence-led investigation by police operatives led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen motorcycle alongside others.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives and the local vigilance group for their synergy and swift response.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and credible information to the police to aid the fight against crime and other social vices in the state.
