A Magistrate’s Court in Ogun State has granted controversial musician, Portable, bail in the sum of ₦2 million after he was accused of assaulting officials of the Ota Zonal Planning Office.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Oredein, told the court that Portable and some of his workers unlawfully assaulted, restricted, and obstructed three town planning officials—Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero—while they were performing their lawful duties at his Odogwu Bar.
Oredein alleged that the musician and his associates were armed with dangerous weapons, including cutlasses and guns, which they used to inflict injuries on the officials. He further stated that their actions were likely to cause a breach of public peace, violating Sections 516, 356(3), 80, 249(d), and 197 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Laws of 2006.
Portable’s defence counsel, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Omomehin, pleaded for his bail on liberal terms. Magistrate Oke granted the bail request but warned the musician against making comments on social media or engaging in any actions that could disrupt the case. He stated that any violation would result in the revocation of his bail.
The court set the bail at ₦2 million with one surety, who must be a licensed bondsman registered with the Ogun State government. The case was adjourned until March 5 for hearing.
