President Tinubu Needs More Time To Tackle Nation’s Challenges – AMAC Chair
The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Christopher Maikalangu has appealed to FCT residents, particularly the youths, to give President Bola Tinubu more time to address the nation’s challenges.
Maikalangu made the appeal on Tuesday while engaging with youths and stakeholders at Apo Town Hall, Abuja, on the planned nationwide protest over hardship, scheduled for Aug. 1 to Aug. 10
He highlighted recent achievements recorded by Tinubu’s administration, including the approval of N70,000 minimum wage and Students Loan Scheme.
The AMAC chairman urged the youth to consider these milestone achievements and give the government more time to address their grievances.
“Government is doing its best; let’s give them more time to handle our challenges,” he said
Maikalangu emphasised the importance of maintaining peace in the FCT
“We have no other homes than the FCT; many businessmen have invested here; this is their home.
“Allowing our resources to be destroyed benefits no one; let’s stand up and tell our youth the truth.
“If you go to the airport, you will see people flying to their states. But we do not have a place to run to except here. So, we will not allow any protest here that might be hijacked,” he said.
The AMAC Chairman urged parents and traditional rulers to caution their children to remain patient as the government works towards improving livelihood of Nigerians.
Maikalangu also called on community leaders, market women, and other stakeholders to disseminate message of peace, unity and harmony.
Mr Adams Damihir, representing the non indegene and business owners in Abuja, also appealed for dialogue and peace.
He noted that a lot of businesses were just recovering from the EndSARS protest that led to lost of lives and properties.
“We are taking our time to inform the youth to know the danger of the forthcoming protest.
“It might be a good initiative from the beginning, but there are hijackers out there, that will seize the opportunity to unleash terror and looting
“We saw what happened to our businesses during the EndSARS protest. It caused us a lot of money and we don’t want to experience that again,” he said.
