Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the deployment of emergency aircraft to Iran to aid firefighting efforts after a powerful explosion devastated Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas.
Following Putin’s directive, planes from Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations are en route to support Iranian teams battling the massive blaze at the key southern port, the Russian Embassy in Tehran announced on Sunday.
In a message published on the Kremlin’s website, Putin expressed condolences to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian, and the Iranian people. He also affirmed Russia’s readiness to offer additional assistance in managing the aftermath of the tragedy.
At least 28 people were killed and around 800 others injured in Saturday’s explosion. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blast, which caused significant damage across the port complex.
