Qatar’s air defence systems intercepted 13 ballistic missiles and four drones launched from Iran in an attack on Thursday, the country’s Defence Ministry has said.

In a statement, the ministry said the attack occurred at about 11:51 a.m. local time, involving 14 ballistic missiles and four drones fired from Iran toward Qatar.

According to the statement, 13 of the missiles were successfully intercepted by Qatar’s armed forces, while the remaining missile fell into Qatar’s territorial waters. All four drones were also intercepted.

The ministry added that the incident caused no casualties.

It stressed that the Qatar Armed Forces possess the capability and resources required to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territory, and would respond decisively to any external threat.

Authorities also urged citizens, residents and visitors to remain calm, follow instructions issued by security agencies and rely only on official sources of information while avoiding rumours.

The development comes amid rising tensions in the region, with Iran launching missiles and drones toward Israel and several Gulf countries hosting United States military assets since February 28.

Some of the attacks have reportedly caused casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, including ports and residential buildings.

Tehran has said the strikes were carried out in response to a joint United States–Israel military campaign against Iran, which it claims has resulted in hundreds of deaths, including that of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior military officials.
