Buckingham Palace confirmed on Tuesday, November 5, that Queen Camilla has canceled her public engagements this week after being diagnosed with a chest infection. The 77-year-old Queen has been advised by her doctors to rest but remains hopeful of attending the Remembrance events this weekend.
“Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest,” the Palace stated. “With regret, she has withdrawn from engagements this week, but she hopes to recover in time for this weekend’s Remembrance events.”
Queen Camilla’s absence means she will miss the Field of Remembrance ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, an event she traditionally attends to honor fallen service members. The Duchess of Gloucester will represent her at this year’s ceremony.
In addition, the Queen will not attend a reception at Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening, where King Charles will host Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
Queen Camilla and King Charles recently returned to the UK after a tour of Australia and Samoa, which included a stopover in India. Palace sources describe her illness as “a relatively minor bug” and assure there is no cause for concern.
Queen Camilla is expected to recover in time for the weekend’s commemorations, including the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday and the national service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Sunday.
