Queen Elizabeth II’s final diary entry, written just two days before her passing, has been revealed, offering a glimpse into her quiet and dutiful routine even in her last days.

Royal biographer Robert Hardman uncovered the late monarch’s final handwritten notes while researching for his latest book on King Charles. The diary entry, dated just two days before her death on September 8, 2022, captures a simple but significant moment: “Edward came to see me.”

The Queen, who was 96 at the time of her passing, had maintained a private diary throughout her historic 70-year reign, documenting key events and personal reflections. Her final entry was made at Balmoral, where she passed away shortly after meeting with Prime Minister Liz Truss, who had just taken office.

In the entry, Queen Elizabeth noted a visit from her private secretary, Edward Young, and mentioned arrangements made for the swearing-in of new members of the Privy Council.

“Her last entry was as factual and practical as ever,” Hardman observed, highlighting her steadfast devotion to duty. He added, “It could have been describing another normal working day.”

This brief but poignant entry reflects her lifelong commitment to her role, ending her diary with the same quiet dedication she had shown throughout her reign.
