Reno Omokri to Head Nigeria’s Mission in Mexico as Tinubu Approves Posting of 65 Ambassadors

Media personality and political commentator Reno Omokri has been appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, following their confirmation by the Senate of Nigeria last December.

The list includes 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors who will represent Nigeria in various countries and multilateral institutions, including the United Nations.

A statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the postings form part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence globally.

Reno Omokri was posted to Mexico while Former Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was named Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Among the prominent non-career ambassadors is Lateef Kayode Are, who has been posted to the United States, while former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole will head Nigeria’s mission in Ottawa, Canada.

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode was appointed ambassador to Germany, while former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau will serve as Nigeria’s envoy to China.

Other notable appointments include Ita Enang to South Africa, Grace Bent to Togo, Ifaenyi Ugwuanyi to Greece, and former Lagos deputy governor Olufemi Pedro to Australia.

In addition, Mahmood Yakubu will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Qatar, while Ayodele Oke has been assigned to France.

According to the statement, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has already secured agrément from the governments of the United Kingdom and France for their respective Nigerian envoys.

The United Kingdom has granted approval for the posting of Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu as Nigeria’s High Commissioner, while France has issued agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The ministry has also forwarded the nominations of the remaining ambassadors-designate to their respective host countries and requested the necessary diplomatic approval in line with international protocol.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin the induction programme for the newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners before they assume duties at their designated missions.
