Retired Commodore Abimbola Ayuba Emerges as NIM’s 25th President
The Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered (NIM) has announced retired Commodore Abimbola Ayuba as its 25th President and Chairman of Council, along with the election of new principal officers.
The institute’s Registrar, Mrs Taiwo Olusesi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos, noting that Ayuba assumed the role following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past president, Dr Christiana Atako.
According to Olusesi, other elected officers include Dr Umar Mustapha, Chief Executive Officer of Mentholatum Nigeria Ltd., as Deputy President, and Mrs Ijeoma Okere, former Permanent Secretary of Abia State, as National Treasurer.
She highlighted Ayuba’s illustrious career, describing him as a Fellow of the institute who joined the military as an officer cadet on 17 July 1980 as part of the 28 RC. Ayuba’s academic accomplishments include a Postgraduate Diploma in Management and an MBA (General Management) from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and an MSc in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan, completed in 2010.
“Commodore Ayuba also attended the Transformation and Ethics Coaching Course and the Performance Coaching Course at the UK Transformation School, Hampshire, as well as the Manchester Business School in the UK,” Olusesi said.
She further noted that Ayuba is a United Nations Certified Country and Regional Advisor of Peace Support Operations, having undertaken a Certificate Course in Enterprise Management from Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, and a Diploma in Terrorism, Intelligence, and Security from The Roman Institute/Baze University, Abuja.
“A Specialist Above Water Warfare (AWW) Officer and Principal Warfare Officer (PWO), Commodore Ayuba had a distinguished career spanning over three decades in the Nigerian Navy, holding several key appointments,” she added.
Olusesi also highlighted Ayuba’s commendations, including recognition from the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping for Meritorious Service, the UN Medal of Honour for Service in DR Congo, and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation for training contributions, presented by Lt Gen Martin Luther Agwai.
Ayuba currently serves as the President of the Africa Centre for Strategic Studies (Nigeria Alumni Chapter) at the United States Defence University (NDU), Washington, DC, a position he has held since 2021. He is also the CEO of Kongolo Consult and Outsourcing Ltd. and works as an international risk and security management consultant as well as a media consultant on global security and counter-terrorism.
“The new president’s pedigree as a thoroughbred, seasoned, and tested management professional is not in doubt, as he has distinguished himself creditably in every assignment he has undertaken,” Olusesi remarked.
The investiture ceremony for the newly elected president is scheduled to take place in 2025.
