Retired DSP, Teen Accomplice Caught With 7 Guns, 1,600 Cartridges in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 69-year-old retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and his 17-year-old companion for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation on the Asaba-Benin Expressway.

According to intelligence sources, officers from Dragon Patrol Team 02 intercepted a navy blue Sharon Space Bus with registration number DKA 408 LM (Kaduna) near the National Open University, Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of seven pump-action guns and 1,600 cartridges concealed beneath the back seat.

The suspect, identified as Yahuza Magaji, claimed to be a retired DSP and admitted to purchasing the weapons in Onitsha, Anambra State. He was allegedly transporting them to Kaduna State when he was caught. His accomplice, 17-year-old Abba Sani, was also arrested.

Authorities have launched further investigations to determine the intended destination and purpose of the arms shipment.
