Rome to Host Second Round of U.S.-Iran Talks, Confirms Italian Foreign Minister
Italy has officially agreed to host the second round of talks between the United States and Iran, scheduled to take place in Rome on April 19.
Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Antonio Tajani, confirmed the development, saying Italy responded positively to a request facilitated by Oman, which is acting as a mediator between the two nations.
“We have received a request from interested parties, from Oman, which acts as a mediator, and we have given a positive answer,” Tajani said, according to askanews.
“We are ready, as always, to welcome meetings that can bear positive results in this case, in the nuclear issue,’’ he added.
Earlier, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp disclosed that the Italian capital would serve as the venue for the second round of indirect discussions between Washington and Tehran.
The first round of the dialogue was held in Muscat, the Omani capital, where Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. special presidential envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, engaged in indirect talks.
Witkoff later described the initial discussions as “positive and constructive,” while Araghchi noted that “the atmosphere was constructive and calm.”
The White House has since confirmed that the follow-up meeting will take place on April 19 in Rome, as diplomatic efforts continue to address long-standing nuclear concerns between the two countries.
