Russia Claims Over 150 Ukrainian Drones Intercepted in Widespread Attacks

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed 158 Ukrainian drones during a massive overnight assault. The attack targeted various regions, including two drones shot down over Moscow and nine in its surrounding area.

Forty-six drones were intercepted in the Kursk region, which has seen increased Ukrainian military activity in recent weeks, marking the largest incursion into Russian territory since World War II. An additional 34 drones were downed in the Bryansk region, 28 in the Voronezh region, and 14 in the Belgorod region—areas all bordering Ukraine.

Further drone interceptions were reported deeper into Russia, with one drone each shot down in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow, and the Ivanovo region, northeast of the capital. In total, drones were intercepted in 15 regions across the country, with additional reports from other local governors of drone activity in their areas.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that falling debris from a downed drone caused a fire at an oil refinery in the city.
